In the picture you can see my main station setup.Yaesu FT1000MKV HF,Md 100 desk microphone. IC706 MK11g for HF inc 5Mhz,2m ssb,6M all mode.
Icom IC2725e dual band radio for 2/70 FM and extended receive.Realistic 1000 Channel auto store scanner for the usual earwigging. Tuner is the MFJ 949E.I have WATSON 25A psu and a 25W Power Mite psu, and rotator control under the bench.I have a Trio TR 9000 on 4M via a Microwave Modules Transverter putting out 10 watts, into a Vertical antenna. I also have a D-Star H/H and various other H/H's for various listening modes. My Antennas can be seen on the Antennas page.I also have the screen for the Weather Station on the bench.Having Mobility problems its so easy having all my radios in reach so as not having to sit in another room to play with my toys, and being single I can have cables running all over the place without GBH of the lugholes.I enjoy chasing SOTA Stations as they bring a lot of activity to the bands. If you hear me on the bands Please feel free to give me a call.I you want anything putting on here, such as events etc, please let me know, and i will do my best to accomodate youENJOY THE SITEPlease Note that my Shack never stays the same for long, in the spirit of Amateur Radio I try and test all sorts of configurations of radios etc.

Here i have put some images of the way i mounted the radio.
The main piece is part of a CD case, cut to fit just under the cars radio, and the other end into the ash tray, just a slight push fit.
on the rear of the plastic sheet i glued a square of thin MDF (the plastic is very brittle so use a backing) leaving space around the outer edge especially the bottom edge to drop into ash tray.I then covered the front Blue Peter style with some sticky black plastic. On the top of this i laid strips of self adhesive Velcro. i then put Velcro on the back of the radio head, so it was easy to attach.
The beauty of this is that i only need to take one connector from the radio to the remote head out and lift the radio head and the mount out of the car, so simple. i hope this is of some use to someone.Oh yes and being a cloth eared old fart i have a small speaker in the ashtray cos i'm owd and deaf as well as daft.I will emphasise that for safety you should make sure your radio is connected via fuses to the battery not the fag lighter as they only give about 10 amps max.if i can help just ask, thats what the hobby is all about.

This may give you an idea for mounting a Radio in a modern vehicle.i have an Icom 2725e Dual Band Radio, and this was the solution to mounting it as you see it in the picture.
The Radio Head and microphone can easily be removed from the vehicle with ease just by unplugging the remote cable and lifting it out.

Wouxun kg-699e 4mtr Handheld.worked one on a Sota contact and was impressed, so ordered one and from ordering to arriving from china it took "4 days" amazing.I have used it mobile and it does work well. This radio is compatible with kenwood Speaker Mics etc.i hope 4mtrs takes off during the summer months. I have found a couple of problems with the Wouxun Ist the original charger packed up, and 2nd the original battery has given up the ghost. On the plus side 2 Batteries £22 from Hong Kong, same batteries in uk £20 each plus p&p..Simple vent mount for the Hand held

Wonder who put that thing on the car!I was determined not to put radios in the car, but it got the better of me. I now have 2/70 in the motor, must admit after a lifetime of radios it would be strange not to have a mobile radio in the vehicle. so back to normal whatever normal may be.

Go on laugh i do, this was about 1975 when i was driving for a large company. We had just been awarded safe driving certificates. I am the one with the long hair 3rd from right at the back. I think we all look dead good but i may be biased, how things have changed. The ill fitting overalls we had on hurt if you slammed on the brakes they were nylon and you slid forward in the trousers then spoke in squeaky voice for a couple of days, aah memories.

1983 saw a Dx 160 HF receiver, an FT290 and a Belcom LS20 Handheld with thumbwheel switches wow the technology. The PSU for the Belcom was homebrew 6v, the PSU for the FT290 was an old farnell computer power supply it worked for years and years.
