Having Mobility problems its so easy having all my radios in reach so as not having to sit in another room to play with my toys, and being single I can have cables running all over the place without GBH of the lugholes.I enjoy chasing SOTA Stations as they bring a lot of activity to the bands. If you hear me on the bands Please feel free to give me a call.

I you want anything putting on here, such as events etc, please let me know, and i will do my best to accomodate you

    ANTENNAS

A GENERAL VIEW OF MY ANTENNAS

The Sandpiper HV-9 HF Antenna has had its annual service and is back up on its ground mounting

Here it is sat on the service mounts, having a good clean and tune up.

Here it is back up and ready to rock and roll, less the Top band element as it has developed a fault due to water ingress so is in the proccess of having a coat of looking at.

Antennas on side of house,my wonderful erections

This small compact HF Antenna is ideal for /p working. Its seen here on Jubilee Tower, it worked very well for its small size

I cant beleive this, 3 party balloons have attached to my beam and 6 mtr radial. It could be the antennas had a party

    PICTURES FROM BARRIE G1JYB

Barrie G1JYB with his Sota setup out in the snow near Ingleborough.

WOW nothing i can say about this apart from its absolutely beautiful

THANK YOU BARRIE FOR THE PICTURES VERY MUCH APPRECIATED.in the words of the song "WHAT A WONDERFUL WORLD"

    V9 10m Mod

I have made a simple mod for the Sandpiper HV9 HF vertical Antenna. The 10m wire element was a constant pain in stretching and breaking, or just going out of tune due to the fact when the wind blew it just got pulled until it was just sagging and of no use.

The element is made from aluminium tube/rod, around 92 inches long. Flatten the end and drill to fit the bolt as in the photo.I drilled and tapped the rod to secure it in the tubing

The rod is held onto the plastic clamps by a rubber band drilled to take the clamp bolt. I used a hoover belt to make the bands.

This photo shows a view of the top fitting. I hope this will be of use to someone with the same problem.

    A TIDY UP

The state of the bench in the living room, everything just dumped in a heap, so decided to build a small set of shelves

At last a bit of tidy space, and i can actually find stuff again. (Wonder how long it will last)
I have even tidied the work bench and can now get to the drill and grinders etc,and make life easier.

Wow i can see the drill and grinder at last.

Space to work again, my sons will like it when they are fixing the motor cycles and cars, they will be able to find things now.

Well I will see how long it stays tidy!!

    D-Star

I have decided to get a new toy and am going to try D-Star as something new.
I know at present there are only a few users locally but i am sure it will be interesting as the system develops.
GB7LF is only a stand alone Repeater at present but I am sure in time this will change as more users try out the system.
Martin Lynch has a good deal on Icom H/H Radios so not too expensive to start up.

    The Shack of G4TUZ

Here are a few pictures of the shack of G4TUZ.Thanks for the pictures Paul, brilliant stuff.

Pictures like this are always welcome.I am sure people find them interesting to look at. A "Real" shack, with all the requisite wires and stuff collected over I am sure a lot of years.

Martin M0LCY operating the Clansman Radio

A picture of the Clansman ex Military Radio.Pictures of Martin and the Clansman

Martin M0LCY operating the Clansman portable manpack Radio,Thanks for the picture Martin.

Martin M0LCY operating the Clansman Radio from Jubilee Tower.I worked him on 4 and 6 metres with ease and enjoyed the contact with him and louise M3UBZ. Thank you again for another brilliant photo Martin, and thanks for the contacts, makes doing this worth while.Look forward to some pics from snowdon.Wonderful to hear these bands in use, and great to see Martin making good use of the Clansman.

Another good example of, Martin M0LCY (or as he was in Wales MW0LCY )making good use of his Clansman Radio part way up Snowdon, in not ideal conditions.I was called away at the time Martin activated Snowdon, so never got the chance to try 4m or 6m, i did hear him call on GB3MP but was mobile and unable to get back to him. I say well done Martin, you certainly know what this Amateur Radio is all about, a credit to the hobby if i may say so sir.

This is another picture from Martin, showing the conditions on Snowdon on his jolly jaunt. The train only went part way up because of the weather, and i reckon it looks a wee bit cold and damp up yon mountain. Thanks for the pictures Martin.

    4mtr and 2/70 Mobile Antennas

Fitting the FT 857 into my car

Here I have Put details of mounting My FT 857 into my car.
Fitting is very much like fitting the VHF/UHF radio, but thought i would put it in for good measure in case anyone finds it usefull.

The Radio,Wiring and Duplexer awaiting fitting into the car! rats nest soup anyone???

This is the plastic FT-857 mount, the remote head clips into this.

Ah Velcro what would life be without it? The mount has velcro backing to mount on the same backplate as the VHF/UHF radio.

As you see the FT-857 is now fitted to the car in easy reach, giving HF/6/2/70 with the Atas 120a Auto Antenna System working from 40 mtrs up.

This pic shows just how easy it is to remove the remote head from the car

Now here is a tip that may be useful. I use rewireable Kettle/computer type plugs and sockets on my radios both mobile and base. this method makes for amazingly easy movement of various pieces of equipment, especially when needing to test things.I found another bonus for using these, in that you can get a splitter that will allow 2 radios to be operated, great for when playing out in the hills etc.

Last but not least the Atas 120A mobile Antenna, works well, and easy to use just press tune on the Radio and it raises or lowers depending on the frequency.I hope this is of some use to some one.

    MEMORIES

MY first radio in 1983 the belcom LS20 XE

My first radio was the belcom H/H shown in the pics.1 watt output and look at the controls, Thumb Wheels, so simple and virtually fool proof, how things have moved on with menus and millions of buttons.
The shift, tone, and power controls sat under a slide off panel on the side of th Radio.Mic ear and Charger sockets on bottom of side of Radio.
